Sanford Winery is in the heart of the Santa Rita Hills, which is the California equivalent of being in Burgundy’s famous Cote D’Or., so it is only natural that we would focus our efforts on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Fortunately, Santa Barbara County is quite diverse, viticulturally speaking, and in the eastern Santa Ynez Valley grows some wonderful Sauvignon Blanc and Rhone varieties. While working with white Rhone grapes is new to Sanford, we have been making Sauvignon Blanc since 1981. By making small volumes of these distinctive varieties, we keep it more interesting for our customers and the winemaker!
