Sanford Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir
The 2012 vintage was as close to perfect as a winemaker can ask. A long season with ideal conditions in the summer and fall resulted in wines that while approachable upon release, will age well for years to come. Exclusively sourced from our historic estate vineyard planted in 1971; the first vineyard planted to Pinot Noir in not only Sta. Rita Hills, but the entire Santa Barbara County. This vineyard consistently produces distinctively superb Pinot Noir and the 2012 is one of the finest. This wine exudes earthy aromas of dried herbs, cherry and cranberry. In addition to the enticing fruit and earth, this lovely Pinot exhibits floral and spice aromas. The silky palate is framed nicely by balanced acidity and ripe tannins. This wine will improve in the bottle for 5 to 10 years with proper cellaring.

91 Points: "This wine from one of the state’s most historic vineyards shows chai spice, blueberry, olallieberry juice and a touch of juniper on the nose. The palate is a bit less complex, offering herbal notes of oregano and licorice that pop out of joyous notes of plum." - Matt Kettman, Wine Enthusiast
90 Points: "Another outstanding effort, the 2012 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard and plenty of caramelized sweet berry fruits, violet and spice characteristics to go with a medium-bodied, elegant and seamless style on the palate. While I love its overall silkiness and purity, it's still relatively mid-weight and fleeting, so plan on drinking bottles over the coming 3-4 years. It was completely destemmed and aged 15 months in 50% new French oak." - Matt Kettman, Wine Enthusiast
92 Points: "Fresh and juicy with lively acidity and good depth; crisp cherry and raspberry fruit; silky, fresh and balanced; long and supple." - Anthony Dias Blue, The Tasting Panel
90 Points: "An elegant, pure and wonderfully fresh and layered nose features notes of cherry, pomegranate, spice, tea and pretty floral nuances. Consistent with the nose there is a refined mouth feel to the medium weight flavors thanks largely to the fine-grained tannins that also serve to shape the dusty, balanced and lingering finish. There is a trace of youthful asperity but there is a reasonable chance that this will round out with a few years of bottle age." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
