Sanford La Rinconada Pinot Noir
The 2012 La Rinconada Pinot Noir is sourced from some of the best blocks from this estate vineyard in the esteemed Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Dijon clones 114, 115, 667 and 777 along with a little Mt. Eden selection growing on the hillside east of our winery give great intensity and complexity. A nearly perfect, even growing season delivered complex wines of impeccable balance. This 2012 bottling is deep ruby red in color and is exploding with spicy black cherry, cola, bacon fat and anise. The palate delivers flavors of black fruits framed nicely by bright acidity. The mid palate is full and round and leads to a lingering finish suggestive of cherry and mocha. The wine was allowed to age in new French Oak barrels (50% new) for 15 months where it gained concentration and a velvety texture. While enjoyable now, this wine has the balance and concentration to age gracefully for the next 5 to 10 years.

93 Points: "Loamy soils, clove, salted cranberry, iron, bay leaf and cherry juice show on the nose of this bottling from the historic label that started the appellation. Thyme, rosemary and sagebrush season cherry fruit, altogether quite mouthwatering." - Matt Kettman, Wine Enthusiast
90 Points: "Deep bright crimson. Attractively vegy nose with real vitality. Lots of pure fruit and an attractive dry finish. Great combination of ripe fruit and acidity." - Jancis Robinson
91 Points: "Here the nose is more subdued though by no means mute with its notes of plum, violet, dark pinot and subtle spice hints. I like the mouth feel of the delicious and generous but focused medium-bodied flavors that display good power and punch on the dusty, firm and well-balanced finale. This is no model of finesse but it does deliver excellent persistence. Note that if this can add more depth than my I envision my predicted score could very well be overly conservative as this clearly has development potential. Drink 2020+." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
