Sanford Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir

The 2013 vintage was uncannily similar to 2012. A long season with near perfect conditions during the growing season resulted in wines that are enjoyable upon release but will age well for years to come. The 2013 Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir was exclusively sourced from our historic estate vineyard in the esteemed Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Planted in 1971, this iconic vineyard consistently produces distinctively superb Pinot Noir. The 2013 wine exudes earthy aromas of dried herbs & spice with hints cherry and rhubarb. In addition to the enticing fruit and earth, this Pinot exhibits lovely floral aromas. The silky palate is framed nicely by balanced acidity and ripe tannins. Aged in French Oak barrels for 14 months where it gained concentration and complexity, this wine will improve in the bottle for 5 to 10 years with proper cellaring.

93 Points: "From the producer’s iconic and historic vineyard comes this classic bottling, with red cherries, crushed brick, anise, tart plum skin, candied rose water and even a touch of tobacco on the nose. It’s crisp and fresh on the sip, where more flavors of red cherry and anise meet with thyme and bay leaf." - Matt Kettman, Wine Enthusiast
90 Points: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict is a supple, rounded and medium-bodied Pinot Noir that stays fresh and lively, with classic notes of forest floor, underbrush, spice and black cherries. It's a relatively forward wine from this terrific site, and it should drink nicely for 4-5 years." - Jeb Dunnuck
93 Points: "Lush and dense with ripe cherry and smooth texture; deep, juicy and balanced; complex and long." - Anthony Dias Blue, The Tasting Panel
91 Points: "This is at once the most elegant and the most complex wine in the range with its spicy and floral-inflected red berry fruit aromas that display a hint of Asian-style tea. There is fine vivacity to the detailed, punchy and pure medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins on the sneaky long if compact finish. It's clear that this is still very much on the way up and will need time to unwind, flesh out and improve depth and as such I would buy this only if you plan to cellar it for a few years first. Drink 2021+." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
