Sanford Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir Block 5

THE STORY
Block 5 is a steep, rocky, north facing slope at the renowned Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. This parcel is planted to Dijon Clone 777 on 101-14 rootstock. This block has proven itself to be worthy as a stand-alone wine, and the 2014 marks the third vintage of this special small-production bottling.
PROFILE & WINEMAKING
This aromatic cool climate Pinot has earthy cherry, dried herb and anise notes with a full palate of spicy dark fruits, framed beautifully with bright acidity and ripe tannins. Traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques using open top tanks and partial whole cluster fermentation, followed by aging in the finest French Oak, highlights the quality of the block. From its first release with the 2012 vintage, this Block 5 Pinot Noir has become a Club Member favorite. Only 15 barrels produced.
93 Points: “One of the winery’s single-block series, this focused bottling features clone 777 and delivers aromas of red cherry, vanilla, licorice and pine oil on the nose. The texture is quite grippy, and the palate offers flavors of roasted cranberry, anise, sumac and allspice.” - Wine Enthusiast
