Sanford Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir Block 5
Block 5 is a steep, north facing slope of the renowned Sanford & Benedict Vineyard with rocky soils derived from weathered shale. This parcel is planted to Dijon Clone 777 on 101-14 rootstock. 777 produces grape clusters with small berries which contribute to the recognizably bolder characteristics of this popular clone. This is the fourth vintage of this sought after small-production single block bottling.
PROFILE & WINEMAKING
Peppery cherry, mocha, tobacco and cedar jump from the glass from this earthy, cool climate Pinot Noir. The palate is full, bright and balanced with lingering dark fruits and spice, framed by supple tannins. Classic Burgundian winemaking techniques of partial whole cluster fermentation in open top tanks were employed to craft this beauty. This club favorite was aged in the finest French oak barrels for almost 16 months before bottling. Only 8 barrels produced.
