Sanford Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir Block 6
Block 6 is a steep, rocky north facing slope at the iconic Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. This parcel is planted to Dijon Clone 667 on 101-14 rootstock. This block has consistently provided a solid backbone to the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard designate bottling, giving earthy black fruits, along with notes of spice and forest floor. Firm tannins provide excellent structure and length. The 2014 vintage gave rich texture and earlier approachability, so, for the first time, we selected 14 barrels of this special wine for an individual bottling.
PROFILE & WINEMAKING
Aged 18 months in French Oak, this complex Pinot Noir is appealing now but will show an even greater range of savory aromas to complement its bright fruit with additional time in the bottle. This wine will age beautifully for at least 10 to 12 years. For a clonal tasting treat, drink this wine side by side with our 2014 La Rinconada Vineyard Vista Al Rio Pinot Noir, also made from clone 667, but from markedly different soils and microclimate even though the vines can almost see each other!
