Sanford Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
The 2014 Sanford Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from our two estate vineyards: the historic Sanford and Benedict Vineyard (57%) and La Rinconada (43%). Both of these stellar vineyards are in the heart of the Sta. Rita Hills. A wide range of Pinot clones are planted on these sites, and our 2014 is a blend of 8 different clones from 9 separate blocks. 2014 was a warm dry year, resulting in rich, complex and well-structured and balanced wines.
PROFILE & WINEMAKING
Bright red in color with aromas of black raspberry, orange peel and savory notes of anise and sage. Rich berry flavors balanced nicely by acid and tannin structure. To allow the vineyard to shine through, we take a gentle approach in the cellar, using traditional Burgundian techniques. The wine was aged in French Oak barrels (30% new) for 10 months where it gained concentration and picked up hints of toast, bacon and cloves.
