Sanford Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
The 2016 Sanford Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from our two estate vineyards: the historic Sanford & Benedict Vineyard and La Rinconada. Both of these stellar vineyards are in the heart of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. A wide range of Pinot clones are planted on these sites, and our 2016 is a blend of 8 of these from different soil types. 2016 was the 5th year of a severe drought, giving wines with softer acidity and fleshy palates. This Pinot is bright red ruby in color and is bursting with black raspberry and orange peel, along with savory notes of lavender and white pepper. The palate delivers dense dusty, berry flavors with balanced acid and tannin structure, which carries on with a long & lovely finish.
The wine was allowed to age in French Oak barrels for 11 months where it gained concentration and picked up hints of cinnamon and clove.
