We are continually hunting for great Santa Barbara County fruit to make small lots of special wines for our valued club members. This is our third offering of Syrah, and like the previous vintage comes the acclaimed Demetria Vineyard, almost 1,500 feet above Foxen Canyon. Sandy soils with good drainage, along with a long, cool growing season are ideal for this late-ripening variety.
PROFILE & WINEMAKING
The 2014 Syrah is ruby red, with heady blackberry, blueberry and black pepper aromas. Dark fruits and spice greet the palate, along with supple tannins. To allow the fruit to shine, a gentle hand was used in the cellar crafting this wine, including the judicious use of new oak. This is a wine that will pair wonderfully with heartier fare, especially smoked and grilled foods. While drinking beautifully now, this Syrah will also benefit from aging; a wine for tonight, yet certainly a wine for the cellar too!
