2006 Sanford Pinot Noir Buy Now

The Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is made entirely from estate fruit from our two Santa Rita Hills vineyards. This wine spends about 10 months in French oak barrels (30% new) and is not filtered. Fruit forward with a long, complex finish, it works well with most cuisines. This wine compares favorably with domestic Pinot Noirs and Burgundys at twice the price. Our estate Pinot Noir never disappoints.

Winemaker Tasting Notes
The 2006 Sanford Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend of from our estate vineyard, La Rinconada, and the historic Sanford and Benedict Vineyard next door. A mix of vineyard blocks and several different clones gives this wine added complexity. The wine is deep violet red in color and is bursting with raspberry, black cherry, pepper and clove on the nose. The palate delivers dusty berry flavors framed nicely by bright acidity and supple tannins.

The wine was allowed to age in French Oak barrels (30% new oak) for 10 months where it gained concentration and picked up hints of vanilla and licorice.

2006 Sanford Chardonnay Buy Now

Highly Recommended by California Grapevine, April-May 2007: Medium-light golden yellow; attractive floral, spicy, green apple aroma that developed with airing in the glass; medium-full body; spicy citrus and green apple flavors; lingering aftertaste.

Winemaker Tasting Notes
Our 2006 Santa Barbara County Chardonnay comes from four distinct vineyards. Our estate vineyard, La Rinconada, provides the majority of fruit, while Bien Nacido, Sanford & Benedict, and El Camino add to the complexity of this fruit forward, but complex wine. This barrel fermented Chardonnay shows all of the exotic tropical fruit that Santa Barbara is renowned for, along with elegant citrus and minerality from the Santa Rita Hills. This full bodied wine has nice acidity to keep it in balance and makes a nice complement to most seafood, poultry and pasta with lighter sauces.

2006 Pinot Noir - Vin Gris Sold Out

The Vin Gris is a dry rose style wine made entirely of Pinot Noir. Instead of 2 weeks (as with our Pinot Noirs) this wine spends a couple of hours in the press on skins and then goes to neutral French oak barrels for fermentation. This wine is outstanding as an aperitif, with spicy foods or on your boat on a warm afternoon. This is serious rosé and a favorite of the winery staff.

Winemaker Tasting Notes
Our 2006 Vin Gris of Pinot Noir is from our beautiful La Rinconada Vineyard. After de-stemming our Pinot Noir, we allow 3-5 hours of contact time before draining off the lightly colored juice for our Vin Gris. The wine is then tank-fermented to dryness before aging in neutral French Oak barrels for 4 months. This wine has inviting aromas of strawberry, cranberry and watermelon along with floral notes suggestive of orange blossoms. Grilled seafood, spicy dishes and most picnic fare would be excellent with this wine.
