Sanford Founders' Vines Chardonnay

THE STORY
It all started with a pioneering vision to grow world class Chardonnay in a remote coastal region of California that was long considered far too cool to ripen wine grapes. Fortunately, the founders, Michael Benedict and Richard Sanford, had determination and perseverance in establishing the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard in 1971. As the stewards of this iconic property, we have tremendous respect for what these partners accomplished, and from one of the original, own-rooted, plantings of Chardonnay, we are proud to share the 2015 Founders’ Vines Chardonnay, only the second vintage of our most prestigious, limited release white wine.
PROFILE & WINEMAKING
We selected just 4 barrels for this elegant, savory, old world style Chardonnay. The bright citrus and flinty mineral qualities jump out of the glass, and the palate delivers crisp lemon peel with mineral and saline notes. The antithesis of heavy “California” Chardonnay, this light and lively, food friendly wine, delightfully honors the inspiration of the Founders.
