Sanford Founders' Vines Chardonnay
It all started with a pioneering vision to grow Chardonnay in a remote coastal region of California that was long considered far too cool to ripen grapes. Fortunately, the founders, Michael Benedict and Richard Sanford, had determination and perseverance in establishing the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard in 1971. As the stewards of this iconic property, we have tremendous respect for what these partners accomplished, and from one of the original, own-rooted, plantings of Chardonnay, we are proud to share the 2017 Founders’ Vines Chardonnay.
The 2017 Founders’ Vines Chardonnay is brisk, focused and very expressive, with plenty of the mineral and savory notes that make wines from this site so distinctive. Crushed flowers, mint, and lemon confit develop in the glass, but above all else, the Founders’ Vines Chardonnay is a wine of energy and total class. This wine is a natural with shellfish, sushi, or a simple cheese plate.
