Sanford Sanford & Benedict Block 6 Pinot Noir

THE STORY
Block 6 is a steep, rocky north-facing slope at the iconic Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. This parcel is planted to Dijon Clone 667 on 101-14 rootstock. This block has consistently been a cornerstone of the Sanford & Benedict bottling, contributing earthy dark fruits and an age worthy tannin structure. 2016 was the fifth year of a severe drought resulting in concentrated and lush wines.
PROFILE & WINEMAKING
This single block Pinot has dusty cherry and raspberry aromas, along with sage and cedar notes with hints of forest floor. The palate is full with spicy dark fruits, framed beautifully by bright acidity and full tannins. Traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques using open top tanks, followed by aging in the finest French oak barrels, highlight the quality of the block. While delicious now, this wine has the structure to age beautifully for 10 years or more.
