Sanford Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir Block 6

THE STORY
Block 6 is a steep, rocky, north facing slope at the iconic Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. This parcel is planted to Dijon Clone 667 on 101-14 rootstock. This block has consistently been a cornerstone of the Sanford and Benedict bottling, contributing earthy dark fruits and an age worthy tannin structure.
PROFILE & WINEMAKING
This concentrated cool climate Pinot Noir has dark cherry and raspberry aromas, along with dried herb and cedar notes. The palate is full with spicy dark fruits, framed beautifully with bright acidity and full tannins. Traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques using open top tanks and partial whole cluster fermentation, followed by aging in the finest French Oak, highlight the quality of the block. This wine cries out for hearty fall foods.
94 Points: "The 2015 Pinot Noir Block 6 comes from a single block in the Sanford & Benedict vineyard and was aged 16 months in 35% new French oak. It's pale to medium ruby-purple with blueberry, boysenberry, warm black plum and red and black cherry fruit, layered with pepper, violet, aniseed, sage and bergamot. Medium-bodied and very silky in the mouth, it explodes with tricolored fruits and spices, segueing to savory and floral notes, with a frame of seamless acidity and fine, grainy tannins, finishing very long and nuanced. Wow!" - Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate
